Biathlon Bears

The Biathlon Bears program is a comprehensive skills program for children  offered by Biathlon Canada clubs across the country.

At Biathlon PEI, the Biathlon Bears Program teaches children ages 8 to 14 the basic skills of biathlon in a safe and fun environment. The goal of the program is to build confidence with skiing and shooting skills and to provide a fun introduction to a lifelong sport. The
program is 3-tiered; as participants progress through the three levels, they earn badges.

The Biathlon Bears PEI program takes place in three locations across the island- Souris Striders Ski Club, Brookvale Nordic Ski Park, and Mill River Provincial Park. Programs consist of two sessions per week and run from December to March. Some year round activities are offered.

Long Term Athlete Development

Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model is an inclusive concept that encourages all individuals to be involved in lifelong physical activity. LATD was developed by a group of leading sport scientists as a road map for physical and mental development, understanding that play is an essential ingredient in growing up, both physically and mentally.

LTAD articulates the need for all children, particularly those that have the capacity and interest to become elite athletes, to be given a solid foundation in physical, technical, tactical and mental capacities upon which to build their performance abilities.

Biathlon PEI follows Long Term Athlete Development as laid out by Biathlon Canada.
